It all started on a visit to the chickens
(My chickens stay at a friend’s ranch due to my neighborhood code enforcement forbidding chickens). On any average day I bring table scraps which are adored and loved by my feathery family. On this particular day I forgot to bring the beloved scraps. The only edible I had was a sack of potatoes. I thought I’d give it a try and see how they like raw potato.
At first, TERRIFIED. The girls backed away from the offering. The big brown spud made the hens quite skittish. Shadow, a barred rock pullet became curious of this strange, brown, lumpy, object. Cautiously, she walked up and took a teeny tiny peck. Allowing the newly found taste to register, Shadow proceeded to devour the tater. The commotion created by Shadow grasped the attention of Georgia, another barred rock pullet. In due time, Georgia joined Shadow in consuming the new found food. Soon thereafter, the entire flock joined in the vicious attack on the potato. It was truly, SPUDmania.
